Could the 2016 Grammys be the event that makes the "Hello" mash-up we've all been hoping for finally happen?
Lionel Richie was certainly looking forward to seeing Adele after having joked about wanting to collaborate with the star.
"I'm looking for her," Richie, 66, said during the CBS Grammys livestream special. "My opening line is going to be 'Hello, it's me.' And she's gonna say, 'Is it me you're looking for?'"
Richie, a four-time Grammy winner, will be honored Monday evening in a star-studded tribute with artists including John Legend, Demi Lovato, Luke Bryan,Tyrese and Meghan Trainor.
Because Richie's "Hello" was a huge hit in 1984 and Adele's "Hello" continues to reign, the thought of a possible collaboration has us, well, freaking out!
"We have to do a mash-up of 'Hello'," Richie said. "It's coming."
During an appearance on ITV's talk show Lorraine in December, Richie confirmed his admiration for Adele in a hilarious way.
"She's a songwriter and I'd love to be able to get in a room and just play," he said. "Don't put any pressure on her but every time you see her just say, 'Hello Adele, what about Lionel?'"
